PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
Raye Yeow is a Dean’s Chair Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the National University of Singapore and a leading researcher in translational robotics, sensing, and AI. His lab develops human centered technologies that move beyond the laboratory into real clinical, industrial, and environmental impact, spanning soft rehabilitation robots, exosuits, hybrid robotic grippers, humanoid and swarm robotic systems, and emerging visuo tactile olfactory AI platforms. Backed by more than S$20.7 million in research funding, over 240 journal and conference publications, and a strong track record of commercialization through multiple startups, his work has helped advance robotics from fundamental innovation to globally deployed solutions in healthcare, worker safety, automation, and sustainability.
Research Fellows

Gokula Krishnan Ramachandran
Gokul is a certified data scientist and trained Biomedical Engineer, worked as a senior data scientist before joining EI lab as research fellow. He worked as a research fellow at Cancer science Institute of Singapore where he worked on pre-clinical drug development and developed clinical data collection procedures which includes dual metabolomics, human end-tidal breath collection etc., for disease diagnosis. He obtained his PhD., in Biomedical Engineering from National University of Singapore for his work on non-invasive diagnosis of gastric cancer and invention of a novel electronic nose platform. He is a IES young creator’s award winner and a recipient of IFBME Young investigator award. He had published more than 8 peer reviewed research articles and obtained two patents. Currently his research focus is on the development and deployment of olfactory sense on to robots.

Jonathan William Ambrose
Jonathan earned his PhD in EI lab. He earned his Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2019. His current research interest involves wearable soft robotics. In his free time Jonathan like to hit the gym and find new places to eat.
Research Engineers

Shaun Buxani
Shaun is currently a research engineer and a PhD candidate at the EI lab. he graduated from University of Warwick with a MEng in Mechanical Engineering with Fluid Dynamics, followed by a MSc in Bioengineering with Biomechanics and Mechanobiology. His current focus is on soft robotics haptics and the implementation of haptics in wearable technologies and virtual reality.

Xiong Quan
Xiong Quan is curretly a research engineer and a PhD student at the EI lab. He received his bachelor and master degrees from Harbin Engineering University and Harbin Institute of Technology, respectively. His research interests includes soft robotics, electrostatic adhesion and medical robotics.
PhD/Masters Students

Gavril Tan
Gavril is a PhD student currently at the EI lab. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering at the National University of Singapore in 2023. His research interests include bioinspired and medical robotics

Zhao Luoyin
Luoyin is currently a joint PhD student at the EI lab. He is a PhD candidate in the College of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering, Harbin Engineering University. His research interests include swarm intelligence, bioinspired robotics and unmanned underwater vehicle.

Ziyang Zhang
Ziyang is currently a PhD student. He focus on AI-assisted drug screening and 3DP biomaterials for diabetic foot ulcer. Computational chemistry and Large language Model are deployed. This work is jointly supervised by the Dept of Pharmacy.

Ma Huichen
Ma Huichen is currently a joint PhD student at the EI lab. He is a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Mechanical Engineer, Beijing Institute of Technology. His research interests include soft robotics, and vehicle transmission and control.

Xun Qifeng
Qifeng received his bachelor degree from Beihang University. He is working on design multi-application control system based on EMG signals.
